January 2009
Well, it’s time to write another article for the magazine. I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and got plenty to eat.
We got an early snowfall this year and I see a lot of people have already got to start riding earlier than usual. It looks like it may be a greatseason. Michigan trails opered December 1st and they are getting snow as well so hopefully by the OSSA Ride-In, trails will be awesome.
We are getting ready for our 2nd Safety Course of the season January 11th at Fin, Fur and Feather down in Ashland, Ohio. Remember this will be the final safety course given this season so be sure to make it.
Make sure as you are out riding to remember your hand signals. Remember to dim your headlights as on coming snowmobiles or cars are approaching you. Remember to cross all roads at a right angle to the trail head or road you will be entering since your snowmobile does not turn on asphalt. Remember to tread lightly, treat everyone’s property like you are riding on Grandma’s & Grandpa’s treasured front lawn. Remember speed kills so slow down and enjoy the ride. Also keep in mind never to ride on lakes, ponds or rivers unless you are way up North in Canada where the lobal clubs drill and stake the lakes. But if you are up that far, make sure to check local ice conditions. Don’t assume because they are staked they are safe.
Ride Safe,
Tim Doerr
